Remember Where Your Help Comes From

Happy Memorial Day! We want to say a huge thank you to all our service men and women! Thank you for your service to this country, for laying down your lives to make sure we are all free. We so love and appreciate you all. We are very blessed in this country to have the freedoms that we have enjoyed for so long.

It can be hard to think about someone else going out to fight for us. But that is exactly what God does for us. The song “Defender” by Franscesca Battistelli and Steffany Gretzinger has been on my mind a lot this week. I love the first verse:

“You go before I know

That you’ve even gone to win my war

You come back with the head of my enemy

You come back and you call it my victory…”

Exodus 14:13 & 14 comes to mind. The Israelites are about to cross the Red Sea on dry land. They, of course, did not know what God was about to do. The way they saw it, they were trapped, with the Red Sea in front of them and the Egyptians behind them ready to slaughter them. And this is what Moses said to the people:

“Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

I love that. So often we feel the need to be doing something, to help God deliver us. But we get it backwards! He goes to fight for us before we even know it. Later on in the song “Defender” it says: “Hallelujah, You have saved me. So much better your way…” His way includes us just being still, resting in Him. He does all the work. That’s it! Our job is to pray and seek Him, to trust He’s got it.

Another verse that comes to mind is Psalm 121:1-2:

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭121:1-2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Do you find yourself in a situation where you need help? Do you need the Lord to fight on your behalf? Take your troubles and worries to him today.

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

In His Service,

The Sanctioned Love Team
