Words

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat of its fruit.

                                                                                                                       —Proverbs 18:21

So I was thinking about You, Holy Spirit, and this verse.

Holy Spirit, I want to hear You more, be more sensitive to Your voice, just be more aware of You period.

I want to think of You first.

I want to ask, “What do you want me to say or not say, Holy Spirit BEFORE I start flapping my lips and tongue?”

Words have power—incredible power—way more power than we know or even realize.

My words have power, but Your words, God, DEFINITELY have power.

You created things with Your words. My words can’t necessarily make an object, but they can make a difference:

  • They can open up a situation.
  • They can calm fears.
  • They can open hearts.
  • They can make people feel loved for who they are.
  • They can also open my heart, refocus me, refocus my heart, and change my thinking.

On the other hand, my words can:

  • Burst someone’s bubble.
  • Wreck someone’s day.
  • Crush someone’s dream.
  • Hurt or wound someone’s heart.

They say it’s good to think before you speak. But maybe it’s even better to ask You Holy Spirit before you speak.

What are your words doing?

Think about it. Are your words giving life, or are they giving death?

Blessings,

Rheyma Oosterman
