Jesus The Ultimate Christmas Gift

–A Christmas Poem by Melissa Norris

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. James 1:17 NKJV

In the wonderment of this Christmas season, the Glory of His truth is boldly on display. The manger, the hay, the babe who sweetly lay, as the lambs looked quietly, gazing at the one who would conquer the world.

His growth, His walk, His death on a Cross. Behold a King who chose to give up His throne. Never did He linger in the death He endured, for hell held no sting as He rose up the mighty conqueror. The ultimate battle of new life had been won. In the strength of His power, He ascended above to the heavenly place where His Father tenderly stood, watching in praise as His Son Jesus freely arose.

In all of His victories, Jesus took His rightful place, and there He firmly sits as He intercedes and prays. The gift of His love is above our human understanding, and yet He gave us the gift of His very own blood.

Thank You, Jesus, for making us a living way. A way that gave way to our joyous celebrations. The joys of our merriment now nestled on our homes, a covering, a blessing, a gift to the young and old. We dance and sing and eat and pray, we celebrate like children with ecstatic hearts full of Christmas joy.

Simple treasures of brightly colored gifts have been wrapped for our loved ones, these simple earthly tokens showing our love and support.  Beautiful colors of red, green, and white, each tied with royal purple ribbons delicately curled, draping and dressing the mysterious tops of our Christmas-shaped boxes. The sacrificed tree, freshly cut and erected, stands in the warmth of the gifts’ colorful glow. The room is vibrant with abounding expectations, so come, let’s celebrate the unfolding of this day. A day set aside to simply marvel at His Holy birth.

There is a thick, rich aroma of sugary sweets and the freshness of winter pines as they mingle and mix into the scents of laughter and the twinkling of lights. Traditional carols, our favorite Christmas sounds, move lyrically through the corridors of our houses. These beautiful Angelic melodies reverberated out, magnifying the ringing of the solid brass church bells. Calling and calling to come to the manger, to come to the cross, to come and sing the songs of our hearts.

I love that God has asked us to come and partake, to taste and see His goodness. To digest the sweetness of His Holy Word, the nourishment it contains for our strength. The gift of giving, the gift of life, all because He came as a babe. The fragrant smells of freshly cut hay, the soft white wooly lambs nestled peacefully against His side, as the Bethlehem star shone down from above.

All of the flavors of Christmas have now been plated, the tastes of His banquet table running rich to partake. The braided breads dripping with warm salted butter and spread with mounds of sweet colorful jellies. Dark chocolate bonbons and swirled candy canes, oh the joys of Christmas, have been given away.

But none can compare to the gift of the Cross. No, no man can give the gift of eternal life, no man but the perfect Man, and His name is the Lord Jesus Christ.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, Who is Christ the Lord.  –Luke 2:11 ESV

Christmas Love to you all,

In His Wonderful Name, Melissa Norris
