Touched

“Pull on the heart string of my heart, for I long to respond to You. All of my love is Yours. I pour my life out to You, Jesus.  You can have all of me.

I have been so hungry for the Lord and His presence, I barely know what to

do. I have been waiting for hours in His presence, reading and worshiping. I cannot get enough and I CRAVE MORE!

I have to have a change in my life, and He is the only way to get it! I want to operate in His purpose, and His touch is the only way to get there.”

A woman who had an issue of blood for 12 years had spent all her money on physicians but was never healed.

Matthew 9:20-22 NLT 20 Just then, a woman who had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding came up behind Jesus. She touched the fringe of His robe, 21 for she thought, “If I can just touch His robe, I will be healed.”         22 Jesus turned around, and when He saw her, He said, “Daughter, be encouraged! Your faith has made you well.” And the woman was healed at that moment.

“If I can just touch. . . ” The word touch is translated from the Greek word hapsomai (Strongs G680), meaning “to fasten to or lay hold of.”

Hebrews 4:15-16 AMP 15 For we do not have a High Priest who is unable to sympathize and understand our weaknesses and temptations, but One who has been tempted [knowing exactly how it feels to be human] in every respect as we are, yet without [committing any] sin.

In the Old Testament (before Jesus), there were many laws, and the High Priest could not be touched—religion, not relationship. But now Jesus (risen from the dead) is our High Priest. We now have a High Priest who can be touched—relationship, not religion.

16 Therefore let us [with privilege] approach the throne of grace [that is, the throne of God’s gracious favor] with confidence and without fear, so that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find [His amazing] grace to help in time of need [an appropriate blessing, coming just at the right moment].

Years ago, babies’ physical needs were taken care of, but no one was allowed to touch them. At that time, it was thought that cuddling infants would spread infections and make children morally weak.

Studies have even been done with babies.  The babies who were touched grew, while the babies who only had their physical needs met—fed, diapers changed, etc., but never coddled or touched, never grew, and some even developed dwarfism.

In 1920, Dr. J. Brenneman, a hospital pediatrician, introduced a new rule in his

ward: every baby should be picked up, carried around, and “mothered”

several times a day. Death rates fell immediately!

No one can live without touching and being touched. One has to be touched to live. And like love, no one can survive without giving and receiving love.

“Who touched me?”  When the woman saw that she could no longer hide, she came out trembling and fell at Jesus’ feet. She told Him before all the people why she had touched Him and how she had been healed immediately.

Luke 8:47-48 AMP 47 When the woman saw that she had not escaped notice, she came up trembling and fell down before Him. She declared in the presence of all the people the reason why she had touched Him, and how she had been immediately healed. 48 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith [your personal trust and confidence in Me] has made you well. Go in peace (untroubled, undisturbed well-being).”

It was a dangerous thing for her to come forth and admit she had touched Jesus. At that time, society and the laws were against her. She was considered very low socially and as a person, so it took courage for her to come forth.

She knew she was made whole, which gave her the courage to face the circumstances and/or consequences. She did not need others to tell her that she had been made whole. Wholeness is something you know within yourself. You know you have been made whole because you have touched Jesus.

God responds to hunger.

Jesus, however, is accessible. You can reach Him anywhere, anytime. You can touch this High Priest!

Isaiah 53:5 ESV But He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace,

and with His wounds we are healed/made whole.

Blessings!
